My Favorite Gadget for Measuring Metabolic Flexibility: The Lumen

If you've been following Freedomology and the posts here on this blog, you'll know I'm a huge proponent of both carb fasting and biohacking.

I want to introduce you to a nifty little device that has become my go-to tool for tracking my metabolic flexibility and figuring out if my body is running on fat or carbs for fuel. It's called the Lumen, and let me tell you, this thing is pretty dang cool.

First off, what the heck is metabolic flexibility?

In a nutshell, it's your body's ability to switch between burning carbs and burning fat for energy, depending on what's available. When you're metabolically flexible, you can easily tap into your fat stores when needed, like during a fasting period or a low-carb day. On the flip side, when you eat carbs, your body can efficiently use them for fuel without sending your blood sugar on a roller coaster ride.

When you're stuck in carb-burning mode 24/7, it's a lot harder to lose fat and maintain stable energy levels. This is what most people are missing. You might find yourself riding the blood sugar highs and lows, craving snacks all day, and struggling to lose fat.

But when you train your body to be metabolically flexible, you can enjoy steady energy and fewer cravings, and you'll have a much easier time losing fat and maintaining your ideal body composition.

The Lumen is a handy little device measures your metabolic flexibility by analyzing your breath. Yep, you read that right.

It's super simple.

You just put it in your mouth, inhale deeply, hold your breath for a few seconds, and then exhale steadily into the device. The Lumen measures the CO2 levels in your breath, which gives it a snapshot of your metabolic state. Higher CO2 levels indicate that you're burning mostly carbs, while lower levels suggest you're tapping into those fat stores.

The real magic happens when you start tracking your Lumen readings over time. You can see how your metabolic flexibility changes based on your diet, fasting schedule, and exercise habits.

It's like having a little metabolic coach in your pocket, guiding you towards better food choices and helping you optimize your carb fasting and exercise routines.

You might discover that certain foods or meal timings keep you stuck in carb-burning mode, while others help you shift into fat-burning mode more easily. Armed with this knowledge, you can start making small tweaks to your lifestyle that add up to big improvements in your metabolic health.

Now, obviously, The Lumen isn't the only way to measure your metabolic flexibility. You could also prick your finger and use a blood ketone meter, urinate on a ketosis strip, or even go by subjective cues like energy levels and hunger.

But for me, the Lumen is hands-down the most convenient and painless way to check in on my metabolism throughout the day.

Plus, it comes with a handy app that tracks your progress and offers personalized recommendations based on your readings.

In my experience, using the Lumen has been a real eye-opener. It's helped me fine-tune my carb fasting routine, experiment with different fasting windows, and even optimize my pre- and post-workout nutrition.

I love devices like this, because trying to optimize your nutrition, and understand what's going on in the body underneath the surface can be tough. Without some data from devices like this, it's like trying to fly a plane while you're blindfolded. More information just means you can make better decisions.

By monitoring my metabolic flexibility, I've been able to improve my energy levels, reduce my cravings, and burn fat way more efficiently.

So, if you're looking to improve your metabolic health, I highly recommend trying Lumen.

It's not a magic bullet (nothing ever is), but it's a powerful tool that can help you gain a deeper understanding of your body and how it responds to different lifestyle factors. Plus, it's just plain cool to breathe into a little gadget and see what's going on under the hood, so to speak.

If you're ready to dive in, head over to the Lumen website and use the code "H40" to get 10% off your very own device.

Trust me, your metabolism (and your waistline) will thank you.
