End the Cycle of Bad Budgets

Do you hate traditional budget plans? Me too. Do you hate the new Gen Z budget plans you see on social media as well? Same here.

These budgets are so restricting, unsustainable, and most of the time – NEVER WORK!
I wanted to change the way people spend and save money. This is where GEL comes in, the best "budget" you'll ever find. A new framework for your cash flow that’ll break up your spending into buckets. The Give, Experience, and Live Buckets. All 3 align with my values, making it easy to follow.
What seems to be a random acronym, is the mindset shift that will allow you to design your life without needing to submit a permission slip. Once you switch over to following the GEL framework you will grasp at real freedom. Going beyond the numbers in your bank account or the car parked in front of your house. It lets you focus your spending on true values and staying aligned with the life you want to live.
It let me!
Give: Because Hoarding isn’t Freedom
First up, Give. I know what’s probably running through your head, “Greg I’m not a millionaire philanthropist with money to just give away” – but it’s not just about the money.
It’s about showing up for the people around you and sharing what you DO have, your time, knowledge, or a helping hand.
When you start to give, you start to create connections too. The more you give, the more abundance you will attract. It’s inevitable, kind of like a universal law.
As an added bonus, it feels damn good to give.
Try it. Help a friend out, mentor someone who is starting where you used to be, or pay for someone's coffee in line behind you. Watch how these little acts will transform your day.
Experience: A Life Lived, Not Observed
This is the best part. Financial Freedom isn’t stacking cash and sitting on top of it like Scrooge McDuck.
It’s getting out into the world and truly living – getting to see new places, try out new things, and make memories that will outlast every single paycheck.
I’ve been blessed enough to see the world and travel to extraordinary places. Every time I do, I am reminded without fail that experiences are the real currency of life.
They fill our souls in a way no gizmo or gadgets ever could. You could take a month-long trip, or hike up a mountain – you’re still getting out there and living.
Life is too short to be a spectator.
Living: Not Existing
Don’t think I forgot about logistics, I know the bills, rent, and life expenses don’t magically disappear. That’s why I recommend dedicating 50% of your income to your ‘Live’ bucket — the essentials that keep your life moving.
The other 50%? Split it between ‘Give’ and ‘Experience’ to fuel the kind of life that makes you feel truly alive.
Not quite there yet? No worries. If giving and experiencing 50% of your income isn’t feasible, bump your living expenses to 60%.
The point isn’t perfection, it’s progress.
The goal is to make a conscious effort to put some of your hard-earned money toward more than just surviving.
Lean into your passions. Find ways to feel that spark. Because if you’re waiting for the "perfect time" to start living, you’ll be waiting forever. The right time is — and always will be — right now.
The Bottom Line
This isn’t a complicated formula, GEL is a simple reminder to Give freely, Experience fully, and Live passionately.
