Last week, I was sitting with Kelly having our morning coffee when she started laughing. A Facebook memory had popped up from one of our overlanding trips and she remarked on how many crazy adventures I’ve been able to go on with my boys. I’ve been extremely blessed to be able to have some incredible experiences with my three sons.
Kelly then commented that March 4th was National Son’s day.
I had no idea! But when she mentioned that, I thought maybe I should do something as a memory for my boys, and decided to write a poem for them.
If you have kids, you’ll know that raising them and introducing them to this wild and wonderful world is one of the most challenging and meaningful things you’ll ever do.
People always ask what is the meaning of life? But I’m convinced that the answer to that is that there’s meaning to be found IN life. In living. In loving. In having incredible experiences with those closest to us. In serving and laughing and crying and building deep relationships along the way.
We’re all on this ride together and life is meant to be lived with other people. The meaningful life is the one that is poured out for the sake of others.
And so, I wrote this poem for my boys, because they REALLY mean the world to me.
"To my children.
As you grow, I hope you'll see. If it's meant to be, it's up to me. The world will look to plant a seed, a question that says that you will need.
Some will ask and some will tell, but many will come under its spell.
What is the meaning of life it will say? And you will think about it every day. Rain or shine, it will cloud your mind. But god gives most the gift of time. Years will pass, and I hope you'll see the real keys to just find the beauty.
Take the word of and replace within. And by that simple action, you will win.
The real meaning of life is that there's meaning in life, in living, in laughing, and experiencing the world with people we love.
We were not made a sit on the sidelines and ponder life's big questions.
We were designed to live, to create, to love, to laugh, to cry, and to feel So when I am gone, I hope you will. Just keep on climbing up life's big hill."
